On the 28th of October, Shea Radiance, in partnership with Shea Origin, the Shea Women's Empowerment Foundation and Envirofit, hosted trailblazing advocates for the Clean Cookstove Project Launch at Sospeso DC. The afternoon featured meaningful conversations about health, wealth, beauty, gender inclusion and access to benefit Women Shea Producers in Oyo State, Nigeria.
The launch was the kick-off for a three-year project which seeks to provide 1,000 clean cookstoves to 1,000 women 2020. In addition to the clean cookstoves, we are also providing the women with commercial stoves and building warehouses. To do so, we are raising $100,000. Our guests were surprised to find out that each personal cookstove is just $50 - the price of just one meal for an outing.
Hostess, model and Founder of Kingsley Model Management, Joy Kingsley-Ibeh, led the impactful conversations with founder of Bluffa Jo, Maisie Dunbar, Finance consultant and founder of Impact Africa, Tope Fajingbesi-Balogun, Funlayo Alabi, CEO & Founder of Shea Radiance and the 1000 Women Project and Guest Celebrity Chef Huda of Chef Huda's Kitchen.
Guests enjoyed a healthy and hearty culinary experience from Chef Huda and tasty treats from
women owned desert company Ain't Phyllis Sweets.
The event was also attended by special guests and impact influencers, Josie Jackson of @HelloSilhouette, Kemi Ajibare of @StyledbyKemi, Desirée Venn Frederic, Chelsea Williams of @ThatsChelsea and Adeola Adebamowo of @LovingAdeola while fashion brands Nativ Couture, Sossou Sandals and Charlottesville Dress Company showcased their colorful designs.
The Clean Cookstove Project is a part of the Sustainable Shea Initiative (SSI), an initiative launched by the Global Shea Alliance in partnership with USAID. The project aims to improve the livelihood of women shea collectors and processors in West Africa while protecting the eco-system. We're also providing 10 commercial cookstoves to help women increase their shea production capacity which in turn increases their income.
Inefficient cookstoves used for daily cooking and shea butter production, expose women Shea Producers to the harmful effects of smoke inhalation that cause cancer, emphysema, asthma, and cataracts. Each $50 ticket purchased for the event directly supported one of the 1,000 women we have committed to supporting in Nigeria who source the raw shea butter loved and used in all of our products.
Take a look at our event recap and images below. Together, we can create a healthier more sustainable work environment for shea entrepreneurs.
