Hati of Sospeso

The 1000 Women Project is excited to share the stories of the women who help us support women.

Named as one of the Top 10 Coffee Shops in Washington, D.C. by Condé Nast Traveler, Sospeso is a Mediterranean inspired restaurant on H Street in Washington, D.C. managed by Hatice Rosato and husband Michael.

The name Sospeso comes from Caffè Sospeso, which literally means "suspended coffee." This is a Neapolitan practice of someone anonymously paying for a coffee ahead for someone else in need. "We love carrying on the tradition," says Rosato.

The 1KW Clean Cookstove Project Launch will be hosted at Sospeso this Sunday. On partnering with the #1000Women Project, Rosato believes, "just like any other project we partnered with in the past, if there is a great cause then we simply say why not. If people are in a position to help then they all should as small actions add up to make a big difference."

We seek to inspire women through our partnerships. We're always interested in knowing what piece of advice the women we work with hold true. Rosato says she was once told that 'her success is not proof that you are failing, her success is proof that it is just possible.'

She says that if women "support each other more instead of competing, we can achieve more as a community as a whole."
